The YPP (Youth Peace Project) is a initiative created by Increase The Peace to open youth centres for young people. In 2011 the first youth centre opened in Conduit Street in Barton where it was regularly attended by over 150 young people.
The YPP gives young people a base to attend on a regular basis to meet friends socialise and get involved in many activities such as sport, dance, music and art. In addition to these there will also be a regular programme of educational activities such as talks on drugs, gang culture and knife crime, careers advice and other life skills classes.
The YPP is growing a library, has a quiet area for mentoring and one-to-one sessions, and offers support and advice from qualified youth workers where necessary.
The YPP is extremely strict when it comes to those young people attending the youth centre. The YPP has a strict policy on behaviour, and any young people who are caught fighting, stealing, causing trouble or taking drugs, whether at the YPP or within the community, will be banned from attending the YPP.
Unfortunately the sale of the property in Conduit Street, forced a move, but the YPP now resides in Parry Hall in Tredworth, a perfect new home for the YPP.
The YPP aims to open up more youth centres in the coming months, and are currently worthing alongside Tredworth Rugby Club to open raise funds to build a new state of the art community centre on The Lannett in Gloucester. Further information about this project can be found in our news page.
